Six months later after receiving almost 50 reports I was told that I COULD actually report a crime so passed on all the info to the police here. A month later they were able to get pretty much back from the taxi driver.
The whole thing seems unreal, but I am slowly internalizing everything. I can't stop telling people about Prey and how everyone needs to install it now! Don't wait! It would have been impossible to recover my computer without it, seriously. Thank you so much!

So get this... 10 mins after I reported the computer as missing, I get an email saying that they have details of the thief. I checked my email and it's some random guy with glasses on and he was in Sacramento with my laptop.
I relayed a picture of the user, and all other info on the Prey report to the Sheriff's deputy. They were able to identify the user by working with the Adult Parole Authority's picture database.
There is absolutely NO EXCUSE FOR NOT INSTALLING PREY! It got me my MacBook back and I am very thankful for that!
