Toolbox: Facebook Privacy Toolbox

Summary:

This toolbox is for Facebook users who:

  • Want a better understanding of what information Facebook makes public about them
  • May wish to continue using Facebook, but on their own terms and with greater control over their information
  • Need tools that go beyond the limitations of Facebook's privacy settings

There are several tools listed here, and some of them have overlapping capabilities. Here is the combination of tools that is working out well for me:

    Multifox is an extension that allows Firefox to connect to websites using different user names, simultaneously.

    Use Multifox to run Facebook in its own separate identity profile browser window. Don't access any other websites in that window. This helps contain the browser cookies that Facebook uses (among other methods) to share your data with outside websites. (Multifox comes in handy for a lot of other uses, too.)
